Dog Training

Did you dream of taking your dog with you to the beach or on walks, family get-togethers, or just spending quiet family time together at home?
Has that turned out a bit differently than you imagined?
What will it look like if you don’t take action different than what you’ve been doing?

Are your dreams of ‘why’ you got a dog fading a bit? If so, Kokua can help you.
My private training programs are outcome based rather than a certain number of lessons. We outline the skills you will be taught, the average amount of weeks these generally take and you train with me for a set price until these skills are mastered. All skills include written handouts emailed to you and I’m available for you to contact if you are feeling frustrated or ‘stuck’.
Kokua Dog Training is dedicated to helping you build a positive relationship with your dog as you train life skills and eliminate behaviors that you do not enjoy. Think of training your dog as a conversation with a friend. Your dog is a different species and is doing what dogs do. We, the humans, are the ones who have an issue with the behavior. So the questions become, “How do we change behavior we don’t like?” and “How do we teach what we want them to learn?”

Many trainers who teach ‘obedience’ miss the foundations. Whether your goal is to have a great family pet or participate in any type of dog sport, a solid foundation is required first. The skills essential for a great family pet are the same as for any performance dog. Foundation skills include things such as manners around the house and in meeting guests, walking on a leash without pulling, not reacting to other dogs or people, coming when called, not jumping up, a solid stay including at the door, not stealing food, calm while being groomed or at the vet clinic, etc.
